TAIPING: Some 459 verities of orchid plants owned by 40 orchid
enthusiasts from, Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Penang were
displayed at the Taiping Lake Garden Fest 2012 at the Lake Gardens
here recently.

Besides the show were stalls selling orchid plants, fruit-tree plants,
a verity of home decorating plants, fertilizers, plastic pots and
plant insect repellents for were sold.

Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi plant with 45 flowers and five buds owned by
Teh Thian  Lai from Taiping was named the best plant of the show.

Paphiopedilum parishii plant with  two spikes each carrying six
flowers owned Sin Chan Wah from Cameron Highlands was named as the
reserve best plant.

And Phalaenopsis cornu cervi 'alba' plant with about 39 flowers owned
by  Teh Thian Lai was named the best species .

The Annual Taiping Pangguni Uthiram Festival


There will be another tourist attraction in Taiping and that will be the Annual Pangguni Uthiram Hindu Festival celebrated at the Larut Foothll  Waterfall Hindu temples which overlooks scenic waterfalls.

It will attract over thousands of Hindu devotees from all over the country to pray, full fill their woes and pay homage to Lord Thendyuthabani and Lord Ganesha at the Larut Foothill between 25 and 27 March, 2013 in Taiping 

On 26 March, 2013 will also be a day for the Hindu devotees who will pay homage to Lord Supramaniam, and who will full fill their woes by way of couples carrying babies in yellow sari cradles hanging on sugar cane stalks and carrying decorated kavadis of every sizes and some with spikes stuck on their bodies .

On the first day there will be Indian cultural Shows, classical dances and devotional songs sang by the locals.
The important date will be 26 March, 2013 when the devotees will come in droves to celebrate the Pangguni Uthirum Festival at the temple site. The organisers will carry out several Poojas; receive kavadies, milk urn bearers and others who will come full to fill their vows.

The devotees will be served with free vegetarian lunch at the Waterfall “Annathana Madam” on the same day between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.

On 27 March, 2013 the chariot with Lord Murugan pulled by two bullocks and they will leave the Waterfall Sri Thendayuthabani Temple and 5.30 pm and traverse Taiping Town and end its journey at Kota Road Sri Nagamuthu Mariamnan Temple.

There will be “thanieer panthals”  manned by government departments, NGOs, shop keepers and others along the route providing snacks and drinks to devotees following the chariots.

The organisers advised the carrying kavadi groups to be well mannered and obey traffic laws on theirway to their destination.
